Have your recent daydreams involved more swashbuckling than usual? Perhaps your fourth grader has taken to cries of “En garde!” at the dinner table, challenging her mashed potatoes with a butter knife. Whatever the omen, it might be time to give fencing a try: Virginia Academy of Fencing is offering Six (6) introductory Olympic Sport or Historical Swordsmanship classes (ages 4 and up, includes equipment rental) for only $99 – a $199 value!
Founded in 1991 by Fencing Master Alexandre Ryjik, Virginia Academy of Fencing prides itself on being the “World’s Largest Fencing School.” Over the years, the skilled and patient coaches have introduced the sport of “physical chess” to thousands of beginners of all ages.
The Olympic Sport and Historical Swordsmanship introductory classes are open to Little Musketeers (4-5 years), Children (6-8 years), Youth (9-13 years) and Teen/Adults (14 and up) and include equipment rental. Both courses cover the history, safety and etiquette of fencing. Students taking the Olympic Sport course will also get an introduction to the official Olympic weapons and bout rules, while Historical Swordsmanship participants will get a crack at the handwork and strategy of the two-handed sword and rapier. By the end of each program, participants will know the fundamentals of fencing, etiquette and terminology, and be able to fence and referee bouts with their fellow students.
A full six weeks of fun, each course is a perfect gift for any aspiring swordsman (or woman!). But you’ll need to act fast: This deal will ride away faster than you can say “touché”!
